Here at Robert Gatward Jewellers we are lucky enough to spend a lot of our time assisting people with selecting the perfect engagement ring and wedding rings. Because of this, we are at the forefront of diamond engagement ring trends — not only do we witness trends emerge but we can predict with a fair amount of certainty what will soon be trending, too. With that in mind, we have gathered together some of our top engagement ring trends for 2019 — from unique pear-shaped solitaires, to three-stone rings; from delicate halos to yellow gold rings and thick bands.
Unique and organic ring designs
In general, 2019 will see buyers moving away from traditional designs. This year’s engagement rings will be more unique and less uniform. Think coloured gemstones (sapphires are a current favourite), unusual cuts, and organic clusters.
Unusual diamond shapes
When people think of an engagement ring, many instantly picture the classic round solitaire ring, however more unusual diamond shapes are a highly popular choice this year — with pear and oval-shaped diamonds carrying their 2018 popularity through to 2019, cushion cut diamonds are becoming a new trend, too. If it’s unusual, it’s in!
Three-stone rings
Meghan Markle’s engagement to Prince Harry may seem like a long time ago now they are married, however the three-stone engagement ring trend Meghan’s ring kickstarted is set to continue throughout 2019. Said to symbolise a couple’s past, present and future, this year’s take on the three-stone style will enjoy a centre diamond surrounded by two fancy diamonds or gemstones — thin, elegant bands will increasingly feature with this style, too.
Yellow gold rings
Favoured ring metals change with the times, and in 2019, yellow gold is going to become highly fashionable again — probably thanks to the mixed metals trend we’ve seen in stacking rings and jewellery overall. This mixed metal style will also be big in engagement rings. Yellow gold complements all styles of engagement ring — whether traditional, vintage or contemporary, leaving many options open for the design of the ring.
Hexagon settings
Hexagon ring settings are a relatively fresh trend and are ready to take 2019 by storm. For these gorgeously geometric rings, the diamonds are often cut into simple, classic shapes, but the hexagon setting makes them appear angular too. One thing is for certain — this ring style is a truly modern eye-catcher.
Delicate halo rings
2018 was all about the halo engagement ring, thanks in part to the fact a halo arrangement tends to make the centre stone appear much larger than its true size — for those who want to buy a “rock” but without the hefty price tag, this is the ideal compromise. The halo trend will continue throughout 2019, however this year’s take on the halo ring will be far more delicate and all about the intricate details.
Thick bands
An increasing number of our bespoke design requests recently have been for engagement rings with thick bands, so we can certainly see that style carrying on and getting even more popular throughout this year and beyond.
