Weddings are exciting; however, the real meaning of the day can get lost under all the stress of the planning. Even the wedding day itself can go by in a blur of photographs and chats with friends and relatives, leaving no time for you to enjoy it as a couple.
So, why not remind your groom-to-be or bride-to-be on the big day of why you are getting married in the first place, and surprise them with something that will make their heart smile?
We’ve shared ten great ideas below which will result in an extra-memorable day for both of you.
Send them a note
A straightforward and free idea but trust us when you tell you that any bride or groom receiving a note from their partner (via a bridesmaid or groomsman) as they wait for them to arrive at the altar will be over the moon. It doesn’t need to be a full letter — just one sentence will do the trick. You really can’t go wrong with something along the lines of “I can’t wait to marry you today”.
Send them a gift
Choose a special gift for your partner and have it sent to their room on the morning of the wedding. Just one thing will do, or you could spoil them with a hamper of small gifts instead. A fun hamper inclusion for a groom is a pair of socks, in case they get ‘cold feet’! Jewellery and watches are popular and lovely choices for a beautiful and memorable gift between a bride and groom.
Get your wedding rings engraved
Most couples choose their wedding rings, buy them, and then put them away somewhere safe until the wedding. Take this opportunity to get the rings engraved, and your fiancé/fiancée won’t suspect a thing! The message is up to you, but popular choices would be the date of your wedding or a simple “I love you”.
Personalise an item of their clothing
Similar to rings, most wedding items are bought and then tucked away for safekeeping. This gives you ample opportunity to steal something away, get it personalised, and replace it before your significant other realises. You could get a transfer made for the soles of the bride or groom’s shoes, write a message on them with a permanent marker, or get them engraved. For a groom, consider getting his cufflinks engraved or adding a secret label to his tie.
Personalise your manicure
Some brides opt for a classic French manicure for their wedding day, while some choose a colour to match, for instance, their bridesmaids and decorations. Why not take this opportunity and use your nails to deliver a message to your husband or wife to be? Get your nails done the day before the wedding and surprise your partner at the altar with talons spelling something out, such as “Mrs Jones” or “I love you”.
Send them a photo
On the morning of the wedding, gather your bridesmaids or groomsmen together and take a picture of them holding a sign that says something along the lines of “Wait ‘til you see her!” or “I can’t wait to see you!” That shows your partner that they are on your mind as you get ready for the big day.
Plan a trip for them
If your wedding budget didn’t stretch to a honeymoon, this could be the perfect opportunity to surprise your love with a trip away. Why not look for a well-priced staycation or cheap flights to a sunny European destination? Don’t forget to book the time off at work for both of you!
Arrange some late-night food
Wedding days tend to be long and busy, leaving the happy couple exhausted and often hungry, too. Why not plan ahead and make your husband or wife’s day? Either organise a picnic for your room, which you can enjoy when you return late at night, or have a chat to the staff of the hotel and arrange for a meal and champagne to be delivered at a specific time.
Invite a surprise guest
Whether it’s a long lost relative or someone they fell out with, there is often someone who your partner wanted to invite but didn’t. Why not organise for that person to attend the wedding if you can? We promise it will be worth it for the look of surprise and joy on your loved one’s face! Life’s too short, after all.
Create a slideshow of memories
If your partner is the sentimental type, they’ll love nothing more than to look through photos of you together from your years of dating. So, why not do that in front of the entire wedding party? Everyone will love a slideshow of your past on the day you start your future. Top tip: provide tissues!
