Tissot T-Race MotoGP 2014 Automatic Chronograph Review T048.427.27.061.00
Tissot Watches have been long established with the world of fast bikes and motor sports. Since 2001 Tissot have been the Official Timekeepers of the prestigious MotoGP championships and in 2003 they made their first Official MotoGP watch. The latest timepiece to come from the Tissot MotoGP stable is the Tissot T-Race MotoGP 2014 Automatic Chronograph, and it’s startling! Here’s our watch review:
The Tissot T-Race MotoGP 2014 Automatic Chronograph, it’s full name, is a Limited Edition piece of only 3333 pieces and comes in two guises: a Limited Edition MotoGP quartz version priced at £565.00, and the Limited Edition automatic version we have here priced at an extremely reasonable £880.00. Now, for a Swiss self-winding automatic watch you really can’t complain with that price!
The distinctive colour scheme of MotoGP black and red give it an undeniably racy attitude and dominance on your wrist. A brushed and polished stainless steel case and black PVD bezel and crown protector give it a unique bold appearance. Sapphire crystal glass is of course standard.
Engraved into the left side of the stainless steel case is the model name ‘T-Race’. Note the Allen head screws attaching the rubber strap to the case giving it a solid and engineered look reminiscent of its motorbike connections.
The right side of the case shows off a chunky PVD steel crown protector flowing smoothly from the uniquely shaped domed cyclops lens over the date window at 3 o’clock. Chronograph pushers are also of good size and very easy to operate. The Allen head screws are also present to keep the synergy throughout.
You will also find T-Race molded in bright red into the black rubber strap alongside the striking red ‘T’ design.
Viewing the dial in close proximity reveals the 3D effect matt grey dial made up of small squares similar to the MotoGP logo or a black and white checkered racing flag. Notice the textures on the black sub-dials and the wonderful attention to detail on the wording.
There is certainly no attention to detail lost on the reverse of the watch either. The glass exhibition case back, cleverly shaped like a motorbike wheel, shows off the caliber C01.211 Tissot automatic mechanical movement with pride. The brushed steel case back is engraved with the Limited Edition number and appropriate branding and a small reminder of the water resistance (10 bar).
The watch is completed with a brushed steel deployment clasp elegantly decorated with the MotoGP logo displaying Tissot’s heritage and connections with the championships.
That’s not all! To round it off and to make it even better value for money, Tissot have included a very special unique helmet box which also doubles up as an automatic watch winder box! Plug the helmet into the mains (adaptor included) and you can happily leave your Tissot MotoGP knowing that it will never loose its wind and more importantly, the time.
