Planning a wedding proposal can be a stressful time, as you will no doubt want to plan a proposal for your partner that will surprise and wow them. Having been lucky enough to have heard hundreds of proposal stories over the years, we have compiled this list of seven top tips to help you plan out the perfect wedding proposal.
Inform the family
This might seem terribly old-fashioned, but if you are proposing to your girlfriend or boyfriend it is a really nice touch to inform her/his family and ask them for their blessing first. In times gone by, you’d have been asking for the father’s permission for his daughter’s hand in marriage, but asking for the family’s blessing is more of an optional but respectful gesture which your partner and her/his family will appreciate.
Buy an engagement ring
Choose an engagement ring for your beloved, order it in plenty of time, and keep it hidden in a safe place until the day of the proposal. Keep it simple by ordering an engagement ring from us in one of our stock sizes – we’ll send it out quickly, and you can have it resized for free if it’s the wrong size for your partner. You can also order it in the correct size, of course, if you know it! Here are some ideas on how to find out her engagement ring size without asking her.
Choose your time wisely
It is important to choose the right time for your proposal. Once you have the ring, you may be tempted to just blurt your proposal out in an unplanned manner, but it’s always worth saving it until the perfect moment for both of you. Stick to the plan!
Make it meaningful
Now is the time to reflect on special times you and your partner have shared together, alongside considering their passions, hobbies, etc. Want to set the proposal to music? Choose your special couple song, if you have one, or their all-time favourite song.
Accept help from others
If you are wanting to pull off an extravagant proposal, you may need to enlist the help of others, and you will find that people will be very eager to get involved in such a special moment in your lives. Don’t try and do it all yourself – accept the help!
Consider if your partner will want an audience
Before you plan a public wedding proposal, take a moment to consider if your partner will want an audience when you pop the question. Some people will love the attention, but others will be mortified by it, so make sure you know for sure what your partner would like. If in doubt, keep it private.
Plan your speech
Whether you’re a person of many words or not, it is really important to consider what you’re going to say in advance of the proposal. You may wish to prepare a written speech, either to help you learn the speech or to read out at the time, or your may want to keep it simple and express yourself in just a few sentences. Either way, make sure you go in with a plan; it can be a daunting time, and you may get flustered.
Overall, try not to get too stressed. Your partner will no doubt be delighted that you are proposing to them, however you go about it. Enjoy the moment.
