Christmas is such a magical and romantic time of year, it’s no wonder many proposals happen during the festive period. But how can you make your Christmas wedding proposal unique and special, while embracing the festive spirit? We have gathered together five ideas for enchanting ways to pop the question during Yuletide.
On Christmas morning
A true ‘Christmas’ proposal, why not propose to your loved one on Christmas morning, when you’re both curled up in front of the roaring fire in your pyjamas, hands curled around a mug of hot tea? Nothing could represent domestic bliss more, and a festively decorated room, with a Christmas tree, fairy lights and ornaments provides a gorgeously Christmassy setting. Get down on one knee early on, then cuddle up and enjoy the special day together as fiancé and fiancée.
In a series of Christmas gifts
If you and your partner love having fun, why not bring that into your proposal too? Collect together gifts with a special meaning for your beloved and your relationship, then have her or him open them in order, with the last gift being a beautiful engagement ring. These meaningful gifts don’t have to be expensive – just thoughtful, to lead up to the main event.
Under the Christmas tree
This idea is simple but wonderful: wrap the engagement ring inside a larger box of a different shape, then place it under the Christmas tree for Christmas Day. When you are ready, ask your partner to open the gift, and get ready for them to have the surprise of their life! Make this proposal idea extra fun by placing the ring inside a huge box, or perhaps placing it inside several packages, like in the children’s game, ‘pass the parcel’.
In the snow
There’s no predicting the weather, unfortunately, but a marriage proposal in the snow, when you’re both wrapped up warm in layers of clothes, would be truly special. This one can’t really be planned in advance, but get your engagement ring sorted, then be ready to pop the all-important question when the weather changes.
In a Christmas tradition
Every family has its own traditions when it comes to Christmas, so why not use one of yours to pop the question, making your girlfriend or boyfriend feel like a true member of the family at the same time? Traditions could be a Christmas morning walk together, leaving ‘evidence’ that Santa has been (crumbs on the plate of Christmas Eve’s offerings!), or scratchcards after dinner that your Dad always buys. Whatever yours is, find a way to propose that fits into that tradition. Imagine an after-dinner scratchcard that’s been doctored to feature the words ‘will you marry me?’ instead of the official lottery symbols. Then out comes the engagement ring, and (hopefully) an overjoyed “yes!”
